I am often fascinated by 2 unrelated things.
Firstly, how often I use quotes from Princess Bride and Hitchhikers’ Guide to explain my serious thinking.
Secondly, how often:
- I use a word or phrase in a conversation;
- Everyone seems to understand what I said and we have a great chat; and then
- I discover later on that we were talking at cross-purposes because we interpreted a specific word or phrase differently.
So here is a quote from Inigo Montoya, in The Princess Bride:
“You keep using that word.
I do not think it means what you think it means”
Which brings me to the term “Design Thinking”. I find people use the term a lot and it always seems to make sense when they do.
But I wonder if we actually have the same understanding of the term when we are talking about it.
With that in mind I found this description of the psychology and practices of Design Thinking really interesting.
Where i use the word “interesting ” to mean insightful, helpful and nice to read.
I challenge you to define “Design Thinking” to yourself. Ask yourself what it looks like when it is done well and then read the article. I don’t think you will be shocked at the content but it I think you will be interested by it.
