So NotebookLM is pretty cool

I am still naive when it comes to AI – I know it is powerful, I know it is filled with Hype and I know I am just a beginner with the whole concept of it.

I have been doing an online course to learn more about the whole idea. I started with “AI for Lawyers”, facilitated by Patrick Barry. I know Barry is an excellent instructor and I thought lawyers would get a pretty straightforward explanation of how it can be used.

Barry describes AI as being “Like a very eager intern”.. I like this because it suggests that AI will always hits deadlines, always be eager to answer your questions and sometimes be surprisingly foolish and even dishonest when trying to please you.

Based on this I tried an AI Research Assistant called NotebookLM – https://notebooklm.google/.

As a basic task I asked it to review my blog, which has over 10 years of rambling articles in it. I asked it to “identify what leadership qualities James King thinks are the most important.”

I think the the following is a pretty good summary of what a leader should focus on excelling at, so I think this new research assistant is pretty cool. Now I just have to go from one simple request to making sense of a whole new way or working, without going down pointless rabbit holes just because the answers are easy.

While the sources provided do not explicitly list leadership qualities deemed important by James King, they offer insights into his views on leadership through his observations and experiences.

Leadership according to James King – according to my research assistant

## Insights on Leadership from James King’s Blog

* **Setting a clear direction:** In his article “Leadership as setting the stage,” James King highlights the importance of a leader’s ability to establish a clear direction. He emphasises how this clarity simplifies tasks and streamlines work processes. This suggests that he sees **clarity of vision and direction as a vital leadership quality.**

* **Active Listening:** King discusses the importance of listening as a coach in “Should I listen or take action?” He notes his initial inclination to immediately offer solutions but realised the value of attentive listening. This implies that he believes **a good leader prioritises understanding perspectives before acting.**

* **Understanding Team Dynamics:** In “Agile is a team sport”, King reflects on his experiences working in different team environments. He acknowledges that being a team player takes on different meanings depending on the team’s nature. This suggests that he values **adaptability and the ability to navigate diverse team dynamics** as important leadership traits.

* **Emphasis on Values:** In “Being mindful of values”, King shares his engagement with literature on mindfulness and leadership. He reacts strongly against superficial or generic pronouncements on values, suggesting he believes in **authenticity and genuine commitment to values as crucial for leadership.**

It’s important to note that these are inferences drawn from James King’s writings, and the sources do not directly state a definitive list of leadership qualities he considers important.
